According to our Preservation Guidelines book, page 33, paragraph 3, the Historic Preservation Commission must consider 3 factors in determining the granting of a Certificate of Appropriateness. I . Appropriateness of the proposed work to the preservation of the building and district We all agree the house needs siding. 2. The detriment to the public welfare the proposed work is pennitted..... It is a moot point. 3. The potential hardship that the denial of the Certificate of Appropriateness would cause the applicant. The hardship is the Undue financial burden. Future Projects - 5 necessity items: 1. Chimney Repair The bricks are falling off our chimney and we have water damage on the inside walls by the chimney. We don't know it our chimney cap is cracked or if it is the flashing around the chimney or if tuekpointing the chimney will stop the problem. At this point the labor costs will range between $50.00-$60.00 per hour. The work will not be done until spring because the temperature has to be between 40 and 95 degrees. 2. Replace 3 Exterior Doors The costs of the doors alone are $998.00, $1400.00 and $578.00 totaling $2976.00. All doors have to be installed and are not standard fit doors therefore; we have not gotten any bids from contractors. 3. Replacement Windows The estimate for replacement windows is $10,360.77. 4. Plumbing repair Replace plumbing fixtures in both bathrooms and kitchen — Unknown $$$ 5. Basement Floor Repair drains in floor of basement to prevent flooding — Unknown $$$ Home Improvement will increase our property taxes. Unknown dollar amount Unknown Factor is the potential closing of John Adams High School. This will decrease our property values 0
