NATIONAL REGISTER NOMINATION STAFF REPORT Criteria consideration B requires -that a nomination consider: . 1) whether the move has affected architectural integrity; 2) whether the moved structure is the principal or sole property representing its historical.context.by association; 3) whether the new location is comparable and compatible with the property's significance; and 4) whether the historical association is dependent of its original site. • Although its removal from the nearby reservoir site affects its association with this feature, the significance of the building is found in its associations with the WPA and the style of workmanship employed by this program. Furthermore, there was no inherent functional or esthetic relationship between the reservoir and the building at its previous site. Having been moved less than a quarter mile and relocated on the same street, the context of the house has not been overwhelmingly altered. The new location is significantly raised above the roadway as it was at the previous location. The physical integrity of the house was not affected by the move except in the loss of a small wood pergola which framed the entry and was too severely deteriorated in—situ to survive the move. It is the opinion eligibility for the that the commission Commissioners and t DBD Director 12/8/97 of HPC Staff that this building meets the criteria for National Register of Historic Places. Staff recommends send a favorable ruling to the St. Joseph County Board of o the State Historic Preservation Office.
