By this letter we request that these exhibits be attached to the <br />permanent file of this application. This packet includes: <br />1) Chronology of events pertaining to the demolition of Blake Gardens site and <br />concurrent activities of the Historic Preservation Commission. <br />2) Pertinent entries from the Indiana Historic Sites and, Structures Inventory <br />Indiana", <br />3) Reprint of 7/5/96 South Bend Tribune article reporting the stated intention <br />of Ralph Williams Associates to salvage the gardens for their esthetic <br />value to the property. <br />4) Agendas and excerpts from the minutes of meetings by the Historic <br />Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County for the months of <br />November and December 1996, and January 1997 (actually held Feb. 3), <br />including the comments of Historic Preservation Commission Staff regarding <br />the eligibility of the site for Local Landmark designation. <br />5) December 2 1996 letter from John E. Parry, Urban Forestry Specialist for <br />the Indian Department of Natural Resources, assessing the condition and <br />health of the flora of the gardens. <br />6) Report prepared by Staff for the Historic Preservation Commission regarding <br />the remaining architectural features at the site of Blake Gardens following <br />demolition activities. <br />7) Copy of a prospectus for the subject property prepared circa 1957 by Blake <br />family heirs for the purpose of promotion of the site for sale or <br />development. This document provides baseline information of the historic <br />character of the "Venetian Gardens as developed by Ludwig Blake from 1925 <br />to 1956. <br />8) Photocopies of photographs by Historic Preservation Staff documenting the <br />condition of the Gardens in 1995 and a copy of one Polaroid photo <br />indicating the conditions of the site in March of 1997. <br />and miscellaneous other maps, photographs (by copy), plans, letters, newspaper <br />articles, and documents. <br />
