The machines will <br />be used in rehabilitating their backs, knees, <br />and ankles, etc. This kind of facility will be <br />staffed with therapists that work with <br />people with these types of therapeutic <br />needs. <br />The second floor will have a locker room, a <br />swimming pool and a therapy pool. There <br />is a need for two swimming pools, one pool <br />for patients with arthritis that must conduct <br />their therapy in warm water; and the other <br />swimming pool will be for patients <br />swimming laps in cool water. On the third <br />and fourth levels there will be different <br />kinds of therapy areas having to do with <br />everything from routine exercises on pieces <br />of equipment, a small running track, <br />gymnasium space and aerobic space, a <br />community room to teach kids and others <br />how to make healthy choices and live <br />healthy lifestyles. This type of therapy is <br />becoming increasingly the role of hospitals <br />and health systems in trying to keep people <br />healthy and out of hospitals, which should <br />start at a early age. <br />He stated that the reason the facility is <br />named "Memorial Leighton HealthPlex" is <br />because Judd and Mary Morris Leighton <br />provided them with a substantial gift to <br />make this proposed project possible; so the <br />facility was named after these two generous <br />individuals. <br />Ms. Auburn asked Mr. Newbold what is <br />the size of the proposed complex and how <br />H:\ HOME\ CPHIPPS \WPDATA \COMMSN\I22096.MIN -9- <br />
