v 1115 Emerson Avenue The clapboard -sided Bungalow at 1115 Emerson was built in 1924 for Fae and Ivan Seifert. The Seiferts purchased the lot in 1923 and mortgaged the property for $2500.00 the next year to have the house constructed. Ivan was employed as a mechanic in the early to mid -1920's. The couple moved elsewhere and used the property for rental income by 1930. Tenants here included- Crystal and Vernon Graham from 1930 to 1940, Gordon Keller for the next.five years, followed by Viola and Clarence J. Calmus in 1945. The Calmus family occupied the house into the 1970's, probably_ as tenants. Clarence was employed as an engineer at the Rendix Corporation. The couple's sons, Clarence Jr. and Howard E., were both enlisted in the United States Army and listed as occupants in the 1945 city directory. In 1950 Clarence Sr. worked as a laborer at Oak Ridge Dairy before returning to engineering at Utica Bend by 1960. He retired in 1960 and died four years later. Brent Harlow, a laborer at Kap Recapping, next owned the house briefly in the mid -1970's. He and his wife then sold the property to Greg Brownell, a Engineering 'Technician at Mario Thonix Research, in ,lune, 1979. The present (1991) owners, Shelley A. and Bruce Allen Bihlmire, purchased it in 1988 -and remain as owner/occupants. Sources: South Bend City Directories- 1919-1988.
