STANDARDS <br />Concerning maintenance the standards state (Group B A. " The maintenance of <br />any historical structure or site shall in no way involve any direct physical <br />change except for the general cleaning and upkeep of the landmark." <br />Concerning treatment the standards state (Group B B.) " Treatment shall be defined <br />as any change of surface materials that will not alter the style or original form. <br />Such improvements include re -roofing ... " <br />Concerning materials the standards state (Group B C.3.) " Additions and improve- <br />ments involving any new material in the landmark should be of the same material <br />as the original. It should be the same size and texture." <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The staff supports this proposal with one reservation. I made a site visit to <br />the property on September 9 after which I agreed with the need for a new roof. <br />I am not convinced however that the proposed roofing material is either appro- <br />priate nor the Absolute best choice in terms of aesthetics, because of this <br />reservation, I believe that more alternatives to the proposed material need be <br />explored.
