•
VI. New Business
Commissioner Oxian asked for comments regarding the lettae from HLFI.
Commissioner Sporleder asked the purpose of the workshop. Commissioner
Oxian responded that it was informational. Discussion ensued concerning
CLG status and the role of the HPC and its staff regarding the CLG.
Commissioner Oxian spoke about the CLG and Section 106 process as it
related to the recent case at 210 LaPorte. Commissioner Choitz stated
the importance of attending a variety of professional meetings and
conferences but expressed displeasure with the HPC's lack of input into
many of those meetings. Commissioners Choitz and Oxian then stated that
HPC financial cooperation should be contingent on involvement in the
organization, planning and/or execution of the CLG workshop scheduled
for the summer of 1994.
Commissioner Eide then moved to contribute the $500.00 with the stipulation
that the HPC be involved in the organization, planning and/or execution
of the CLG workshop. The motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Oxian requested the reformation of the pre -meeting caucus.
Commissioner Sporleder raised a legal question and Ms. DeRose replied that
that action may violate the open meeting act. Commissioner Eide asked if
the City Council caucus was open. Ms. DeRose replied in the affirmative.
Commissioner Eide suggested that the HPC hold an open caucus. Ms. DeRose
stated that the caucus must be preceded by a public announcement to that
effect. Commissioner Oxian suggested that the open caucus be neither tape
recorded nor notated and that public comment be prohibited. The pre -meeting
caucus will be reintroduced for the regular November HPC meeting.
VII. Hearing of Visitors
• Ms. Anne Bockenkamp spoke about the state of Local Landmark Firehouse #7
on North Notre Dame Avenue. Currently the building is home to the Neighborhood
Housing Services organization. It has a badly deteriorated slate roof as
well as other problems with exterior maintenance. NHS has an estimate of
$86,000 to replace the slate. The group's total budget for exterior repair
is $60,000. Discussion ensued concerning various options for a satisfactory
treatment for the structure. Commissioner Choitz spoke of the South Bend
Civic Theatre and its similar problems. Commissioner Oxian suggested that
Ms. Bockenkamp contact HPC staff for alternative contractors and then pursue
other bids for the work in slate, synthetic slate and synthetic shingles.
Ms. Bockenkamp agreed to these suggestions.
VIII. Announcements and Miscellaneous Matters
There were none.
IX. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 9:24 p.m.
0
