0
SUMMARY OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS
g this reporting period, the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend
t. Joseph County has remained involved and engaged with a broad range of historic
preservation issues and concerns throughout St. Joseph County and in the City of South
Bend. The day-to-day administration of Local Historic Districts and Local Historic
Landmarks continues to be a primary part of the HPC and staff's participation in the
preservation of significant local cultural resources. In addition, the HPC has worked
toward the designation of additional structures and neighborhoods and has responded to
grass-roots requests from the community to be a part of the ongoing dialogue of
preservation in the area.
The HPC maintains its responsibilities as a Certified Local Government and continues
its interaction with local government agencies and officials in the long-term task
of preservation education and advocacy. The preservation cause has also been promoted
in the larger community: commissioners have spoken to citizen groups throughout the
community as a means of disseminating preservation knowledge.
During this reporting period the staff of the HPC brought the Indiana Historic Sites
and Structures Inventory for the City of South Bend to completion. The updated Summary
Report including approximately six thousand (6,000) sites in the City of South Bend
was published in September of 1993.
