INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Division of Historic Preservation
and Archaeology
402 W. Washington St„ Rm, 274
Indianapolis, Indiana 46204
317-232-1646
December 14, 1993
Mr. Chip Frederick
Historic Preservation Commission
of South Bend and St. Joseph County
Room 1123 County City Building
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Re: Central High School
Dear Mr. Frederick:
PATRICK R. RALSTON, DIRECTOR
At your request, our staff has completed a preliminary review of
the proposed Central High School rehabilitation project for
Federal tax credit purposes. The project application was
submitted to our office on December 9, 1993, by the Alexander
Company of Madison, Wisconsin.
Although we will need to complete a more thorough review prior to
forwarding this project to the National Park Service, we are able
to provide a preliminary comment on the proposed treatment of the
exterior. In particular, we believe that the proposed retention of
the original wood double -hung windows and the installation of the
new interior storm and screen system indicated would meet the
Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.
If you should have any further questions, please call Thomas M.
Meredith of our staff at (317) 232-1646.
Very truly
a rick R. Ralston
ate Historic Preservation Officer
PRR/TMM
WC/CTALHS
•
"EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER"
