MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />Regular Monthly Meeting 7th Floor, County Commissioner's <br />7:30 p.m. Conference Room, County -City Building <br />August 17, 1992 <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. <br />II. Roll Call <br />Members Present: Mrs. Martha Choitz, Mr. Jed Eide, Mr. <br />Herb Herendeen, Mrs. Janeanne Petrass, Mr. John <br />Oxian, Mrs. Joann Sporleder, Ms. Jewel Van Dalsen, Mr. <br />William Welsheimer Sr. <br />Members Absent: Mrs. Jean Dennen. <br />Staff Present: Fred Holycross--Director, James <br />Pastor --Administrative Assistant. <br />Also Present: Ms. Aladean DeRose--City Attorney, Mr. Kevin <br />Boughal--South Bend Tribune, Ms. Elizabeth Hasse --East Wayne <br />Liaison, Ms. Anne McGraw --East Wayne Liaison. <br />III. Public Hearing <br />A. Certificates of Appropriateness. <br />1. 1333 East Wayne -- East Wayne Street LHD <br />Mr. Pastor distributed photographs and described the project. <br />The owners were not present. <br />The proposal consisted of two parts: 1. install stockade fence <br />along rear sections of east and west property lines to replicate <br />existing; 2. install vinyl chain-link fence with gate between <br />rear, n.e. corner of existing garage and corner of stockade <br />fence along east property line. <br />Mr. Pastor remarked that the proposal was in keeping with the <br />standards even though chain link was discouraged; research <br />showed that chain-link was a common material for backyard <br />fencing in the neighborhood. He recommended approval. <br />Mrs. Choitz said that she saw nothing to prevent the Commission <br />from approving the project; it could not be seen from the street <br />and was well -screened by shrubbery. <br />Mr. Oxian asked if the owner or owners were present. Mr. Pastor <br />answered that they were not. <br />Mrs. Sporleder asked for clarification concerning the <br />staff -submitted site drawing and if the fence was to be attached <br />to the house. Mr. Pastor replied that it was to be unattached. <br />1 <br />
