March 10, 1992
STAFF REPORT
1Mr. E. Robbins Wellddy
o'UhEBenad, INNor46b15
PROPOSAL
Attach four canvas awnings to front facade (south side); Dome
awnings, canvas on welded metal frame. To be installed over
front entry, two front sets of windows, entry door on west wing.
STANDARDS
II. Existinq Structures
C) Windows and Doors
2) Recommended
When awnings are used, they should be of canvas
material.
3) Not Recommended
Metal, vinyl, or fiberglass awnings, hoods, or
- shutters that would detract from the existing
character or appearance of the building should not
be used.
-1 RECOMMENDATIONS
The project is -in keeping.with the applicable standards as sited
above.
However, the staff recommendation is to discourage installation
of the proposed awnings; they are not historically appropriate,
and it is the opinion of the staff that they are not the best
aesthetic solution. An historically accurate and aesthetically
viable awning would have a rectangular frame. A dark colored
,canvas would be more appropriate, eg. forest green.
- James V.
