staff's perspective, the proposal was incompatible with the <br />style of the house; the recommendation was for modification of <br />the plan. <br />Mr. Treat told the commission that his plan had been approved <br />by the Economic Development design review committee. <br />Mrs. Sporleder agreed with staff that the design was <br />"heavy- handed" in relation to the style of the house because <br />of its heavily - classical design elements; she suggested that <br />the applicants themselves would nor be satisfied with the <br />design. <br />Conversation ensued as to possible design solutions. Various <br />solutions were offered by the commission. <br />Mr. Eide moved that a new design be submitted: <br />staff to submit final design to committee for approval. Mrs. <br />Sporleder seconded the motion. Approved unanimously. <br />Proposal #8: Replace side /basement door with solid -core door. <br />Mr. Pastor described the proposal. <br />Mrs. Sporleder moved to approve the proposal as submitted. <br />Mr. Eide inquired whether or not the aluminum door would be <br />removed. Mr. Oxian suggested leaving the door in place for <br />security purposes. <br />Mr. Eide seconded the motion. Approved unanimously. <br />Proposal #9: Replace deteriorated trim in -kind on front and <br />rear porches and at roof line. <br />Mrs. Sporleder moved to approve the proposal as submitted. Mr. <br />Eide seconded the motion. Approved unanimously.. <br />Proposal 410: Install trellis screen on east side; to cover <br />basement door. Mr. Pastor described the proposal. <br />Mrs. Treat described the trellis. Mr. Eide asked staff if <br />there were reservations; Mr. Pastor said that staff felt that <br />the screen would be unsightly but was non - permanent and <br />free - standing. Mr. Eide asked for suggestions; Mr. Pastor <br />suggested that a screen that could accommodate vines was <br />more historically appropriate. <br />Mrs. Sporleder disputed the idea that the screen would provide <br />security; she then asked about the intended height. Ms. Van <br />Dalsen inquired as to the distance of the screen from the <br />house. Mrs. Sporleder suggested that the screen be of one <br />height (approx. 5'). <br />Mrs. Sporleder moved to approve the proposal as submitted with <br />4 <br />
