drainage problems. Mr. Haas said this had not yet been
done. He mentioned another point, he believed that,
according to a new Indiana law, it was illegal to
simply fill in the foundations of demolished houses.
Hundreds of foundations, some from previously
demolished houses, would have to be removed in the
Wenger -Ohio area.
Mrs. Sporleder asked whether the HPC staff had surveyed
the golf course. Mr. Holycross said no, also pointing
out that Riley High School was rated S -12. He said the Portage
Township Trustee supported the idea of landmarking a group
of cemeteries as a unit.
Mr. Oxian mentioned a cemetery of particular note - -a
public cemetery entirely surrounded by farmland.
Mrs. Sporleder reported that certain people had expressed
interest in using the empty plots at the Cleveland Road
cemetery. The township was now attempting to formulate a
policy to cope with this, and would welcome any input on
cemetery preservation.
Ms. Steele told the HPC about a videotape of local
cemeteries which Ivy Tech had recently made.
IX. Adjournment
Mrs. Choitz moved to adjourn. Mrs. Dennen seconded the
15
