<br />on Section 24; John Hague came July, 1829; Wm. McCombs the same time on
<br />Section 26; John an e e Cripe on same Section in 1830; .Peter and Jacob
<br />Eaton on Section 13, in t83i�' somas Longley on Section 21, in 1830; Evan
<br />Chalf,,ut on Section 31, in 0.31; Wm. Smith on Section 14• John H. Smith,
<br />son of Carmon Smith, some say was the the oldest settler. Joshua Johnson
<br />came about 1831 ; John C. Stutsman on Section 24, 1832; Evan and Thomas
<br />B. Chalfant on Secton 31, the same year; James Stuckey on Section 3o. Win.
<br />and Thomas Bulls among the earliest, Samuel Brooks before 1833; Francis Jen.
<br />nings and his three sons in 1833 or 4; Joseph and Stephen Ulery on Sections
<br />24 and 25, in 1834; Oliver P. Stuckey on Section 19, 1836; Menzo Webster on
<br />Section 23, in 1834; David Soosomen came in 184r, on Section t9, and Jacob
<br />Chearhart in 1845, on Section 3o; Gideon Drapier, 1832, on Section 31.' The
<br />first school -house was Stovers, on Section 28. The first church, Notre Dame,
<br />Catholic, on Section 36.
