Jay Nimtz <br />Janeanne Petrass <br />Acting Director - John Oxian <br />Survey Manager - Lori Dixon <br />Surveyor, - James Pastor <br />ANNUAL REPORT - 1989 <br />In 1989, the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. <br />Joseph County provided preservation services to numerous citizens and <br />groups - home and business owners, developers, architects, students, <br />tourists, neighborhood organizations, local, state and federal <br />governmental agencies, and other non-profit groups. The Commission <br />offered advice and information on such-topicsas: the National-- <br />--Register <br />ational__-Register of Historic Places, investment tax credits, facade easements, <br />local landmark and district designation, the Historic Sites and <br />.Structures Inventory, the history of area buildings, the Secretary of <br />the Interior's Standards, restoration techniques, adaptive use o� <br />historic structures, funding sources, the Main Street program, and <br />historic preservation legislation. The HPC received two grants from <br />the U. S. Department of the Interior and one from the Community Block <br />Grant fund. <br />Staff <br />-Lynette Jentoft-Nilsen terminated her position as direc=tor in May. <br />-John Oxian served as acting director until January 1, 1990. <br />-Brian Poland and Kipp Normand terminated their positions as Survey <br />Manager and Research Assistant, respectively, in April. Lori Dixon <br />was hired in June and served as Survey Manager until January 1, 1990, <br />at which time she was promoted to the position of director. <br />-Mary Wikman was hired in December to fill the Research Assistant <br />position vacated by Mr. Normand. <br />-James Pastor served as Architectural Surveyor throughout the year. <br />-Leigh Booker was hired as an Architectural Surveyor to assist Mr. <br />Pastor with the continually growing work load under the SRM grant. <br />-Elaine Fountain terminated her position as Records Manager in <br />November. The duties of that position were then split between Ms. <br />Wikman and Mrs. Dixon. <br />-Alisa Fountain was hired to assist with clerical work during the <br />summer. <br />-David Chapleau served as the City Attorney's representative to the <br />HPC and Kevin Bulter continued to serve as the Commission's attorney. <br />Historic Sites & Structures Inventory <br />The Commission continued the Survey Records Management project which <br />updates the Historic Sites and Structures Inventory. Information was <br />transferred to state forms on 670 structures including 572 <br />contributing structures. All 670 structures were rephotographed. <br />James Pastor and Kipp Normand performed survey field work and <br />
