William/406 W. Madison which <br />requests subdivision of the parcel. This letter presents information to <br />clarify the historic status of the property. <br />'This property was designated as a local landmark by the Common Council on <br />November 4, 1975. The house, built in 1855, is extremely significant as <br />one of the oldest extant houses in South Bend and as one of the few houses <br />designed in the Federal Style. The original band -hewn beams are still <br />visible in the basement.
