NEW BUSINESS (Cont.) <br />a. continued.... <br />Mr. Smith explained that the property is a <br />three apartment, two -story white house <br />with aluminum siding. There is a street <br />that runs between Scott Street and Chapin <br />Street between St. Hedwig's Church and <br />the property that Mr. Smith owns. Mr. <br />Hojnacki noted that Mr. Smith indicated <br />that he is willing to negotiate with South <br />Bend Heritage Foundation or St. Hedwig. <br />Mr. Hojnacki asked a question regarding <br />what is the difference whether Mr. Smith <br />talk with South Bend Heritage Foundation <br />or St. Hedwig and not the Redevelopment <br />Commission. Mr. Smith explained that <br />the difference is the condemnation process <br />versus being able to negotiate for a selling <br />price. Mr. Smith asked the <br />Redevelopment Commission if they would <br />like to review the log of conversations that <br />he had with Mr. Gibney. Mr. Smith <br />stated that he had copies of the <br />conversations. <br />Mr. Smith stated that Mr. Gibney <br />approached him a couple of months ago <br />and told him that St. Hedwig's Church <br />was interested in acquiring the property. <br />Mr. Smith showed them through the <br />property, but Mr. Smith's asking price <br />was not what Mr. Gibney wanted to pay. <br />Mr. Smith stated that Mr. Gibney asked <br />him if they could have the house appraised <br />and Mr. Smith agreed to having the house <br />appraised. Mr. Smith stated that the <br />appraiser came back with an appraisal, <br />which from his standpoint was low and he <br />-7- <br />
