MEETING REPORT <br />M I ' ii-is`',1:.lAi,':A -- L41dE:tMr''iF.'KS & THEIR PROTECTION <br />411 October 3, 1986 <br />10:00 a.m. <br />APPENDIX E <br />RE: Annexation of the Savidge/Coy Residence on Cleveland Road <br />Attending: Mayor Robert Buetter <br />C:i,r• is Huff , C tx Planner <br />Joann Sporleder, President, HPC: <br />Karen Kiemnec, Director, HPC <br />The group met to discuss the proposed annexation of the Savidge/Coy <br />Residence at 16327 Cleveland Road. A petition for annexation of the <br />property was recently f i l ed. The petition was withdrawn, t'1 it`v'because <br />it did not meet the contiguity requirement. '1n order for a. property to be <br />annexed, it must abut current Mishawaka bound.a.rie•_. In this case, the <br />boundary l i ne goes to the we=t right-of-way of Lest Street ._+.nth the south <br />boundary l i ne of U.S. i (see map). Mayor Buetter and Mr. Huff indicated <br />that it is not their intention th.a,t commercialism should go any further <br />east than the Lea Street where the city bound•a.ries currently end. They <br />stated that in order- ft_tr the Savidge/Coy property to be annexed, a. separate <br />ordinance would have to be introduced tso annexL_+, e + Street and U.S. 23 north <br />of the cemetery. They further indicated that they would not introduce such <br />an ordinance. <br />The group discussed whether or not the Savidge/Coy property or any csther=. <br />•could remain under the HPC :jurisdiction (by agreement for contract) if they <br />were annexed. Mayor Buetter and Mr. Huff did not feel that would be <br />possible but that HPC would lose jurisdiction if annexation took place. <br />:Another option discussed was making donation of a facade easement a. <br />requirement of annexation. Mayor Buetter and Mr. Huff felt that t ci=tUtd be <br />done but only by the Common Counc i l . <br />Everyone agreed that Mishawaka needs to have its cs1,+:tn historic di tr•ict <br />commission. i'``is. K i emnec indicated th•a.t she would contact a representative <br />from Beiger Heritage and LeRoy Troyer to see if they would be interested i n <br />serving on a committee to begin to take the steps sto set up .a, <br />Mishawaka Historic District Commission.
