South Bend Heritage Foundation (SBHF) refrained from an active involvement
in the Fredrickson House for the last 3 years because it assumed that the
building would be developed either by a private sector entity or by another
community not-for-profit preservation group.
2. In May, 1986 SBHF contacted the City and the lst Source Trust Department
and suggested that a house move might be a viable development option for
saving the Fredrickson House.
3. A meeting took place between SBHF, the City and the Trust Department at which
time SBHF presented its specific intentions to explore the economic feasibility
of moving and developing the Fredrickson House.
4. during the last week of November 1986, SBHf was contacted by a realtor and sub-
sequently the Trust Department stating that there was an offer to purchase the
Fredrickson land, candy shop, out -buildings, fence and landscaping. The house
would have to be relocated to make way for parking. SBHF was named in the
purchase offer as the receiver of the building/mover of the building.
5. SBHF requested a statement from the Trust Department summarizing their
efforts to date in marketing the Fredrickson real estate.
6. On December 4, 1986, SBHF Board of Directors voted favorably to accept the
Fredrickson House as a gift contingent on its ability to move the building.
SBHF would incur no maintenance costs or insurance liability prior to the
time of the move.,
A Sketch of the Fredrickson House Move Proposal
1.
