legal description <br />historical notes <br />The Rmtewatomi park Shelter House was built in 1921 with funds provided by Post K <br />of the Travelers Protective Association. The Shelter House was designed by the local <br />arzhitectura\firm of Freyermuth and Maurer. It is reportedly designed after the <br />Shelter House in Cherokee Park Louisville, Kentucky. 0 <br />The wney for the shelter hoose was raised through several socials and voluntary <br />subscriptions. The Studebaker Corporation donated a Light -Six to the fund raising <br />campaign. <br />The cornerstone was put into place on October 24, 1921 and the shelter house opened <br />in late November of the same year. The total cost of the structure was $15,000. <br />In 1932 a $6,200 addition was added to the structure increasing the sanitary facilities. <br />The shelter house was used by tourists who camped in the free camp sites' The camping <br />facilities included electric lights, running water, and outdoor fireplaces as well as <br />the shelter house.
