The Supreme Court accepts the judgment of the NYC council that the preservation of <br />landmarks benefits all New York citizens. <br />Other ideas from some of the sessions: <br />The local preservation non-profit in Ypsilanti awards plaques to landmark owners who have <br />done a good restoration and maintenance job on their landmark home. If the owners then <br />do something unsympathetic, fall behind in maintenance, or sell the house, the plaque is <br />revoked. <br />Other commissions are dealing with video discs by requiring some sort of screening <br />around them, having them put in the rear of the yard, or having them placed at the rear <br />of the roof if it is a flat -roofed commercial building. <br />The National Alliance for Preservation Commissions will be coming out with a video and a <br />slide program on Design Review. It will be available through the State Historic Preservation <br />Office. <br />Maryland has approved a 10% Investment Tax Credit on rehabilitation of historic buildings. <br />The Investment Tax Credit can be used as a credit against real estate taxes. <br />It is important to place more emphasis on non-reversible changes in historic districts. <br />Be sure to ask for good, clear architectural drawings (plans and elevations) when <br />• getting documentation for Certificates of Appropriateness. <br />
