Appendix E <br />Mayor's Conference - Indianapolis - April 8, 1983 <br />Nellie Longsworth - President of Preservation Action <br />Ms. Longsworth announced the $25 million in the current Jobs Bill which has been <br />allotted for Historic Preservation matching grants. Indiana will receive $428,000. <br />The monies are for buildings individually listed on the National Register or those <br />in a National Register district and is available to private residences as well as <br />commercial buildings. The only restriction is that it cannot be used for government <br />buildings in government use and the monies must be used for development (not <br />acquisition). The application must be in by 9/30/83 and the project must begin by <br />1/1/84. <br />Ms. Longsworth also stressed the importance of taking advantage of the Tax Act now <br />One of the area's of Tax Reform that Congress will be reviewing this year is real <br />estate. <br />Representatives from the Philadelphia Regional Office of the National Park Service <br />Myra Harrison - Assistant Regional Director <br />John Hnedak - Architectural Historian <br />Both of these individuals stressed the importance of having conversation with the <br />state and /or regional office early in your Tax Act project to work out any problems <br />and avoid not getting your project certified. They indicated that 95% of the tax <br />projects are accepted. <br />
