Appendix
COMMISSION
PH COUNTY, W
Room 1140 County -City Building
May 24, 1982
Mrs. Irene Gammon, City Clerk
4th Floor, County -City Building
South Bend, IN 46601
South Bend, Indiana 46601
RE: Proposed designation of property located at
518 North Lafayette Blvd.
Dear Mrs. Gammon:
RICHARD S. JOHNSON
Executive Director
(219) 284-9571
The Staff of the Area Plan Commission has reviewed the Historic Preservation
Commission's proposed designation of the above property as an historic
landmark. While we cannot argue against the historical nature of this
structure, we cannot support its existing location. Ordinance #6669-79
gave the South Bend Medical Foundation proper zoning.'to allow the
construction of their addition at the corner of Lafayette Boulevard and
Navarre Street, along with the necessary parking for the addition. The
location of the building at 518 North Lafayette Boulevard interfers with
this proposed parking lot. The Staff, therefore, would recommend that
action on this petition be delayed so that the South Bend Medical Foundation
and Southhold Heritage can continue in the negotiations to move the building.
A landmark designation at this time could delay or stop the construction of
the parking lot.
Sincerely,
0
David B.
