On behalf of the <br />Foundation I wish to thank you for your invitation extended <br />to Mr. Markey to attend the Historic Preservation Commission <br />meeting to be held on April 19, 1982 regarding the home at <br />518 North Lafayette Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana. Dir. <br />Markey will,be unable to attend; however, please let this <br />letter express his sentiment and that of the Foundation. <br />The house existing at 518 N. Lafayette Boulevard was <br />purchased by the South Bend Medical Foundation several years <br />ago in order that they might expand their building facilities <br />in the future and acquire ample parking areas for their <br />patients and personnel. <br />Our client has always felt that this house should not <br />be sacrificed but should be moved in order to preserve its <br />historical value. In accordance with this thinking our <br />client made a conditional donation of the house itself to <br />Southold Heritage on or about March 19, 1980, i.e., the house <br />would belong to them providing it was removed within certain <br />time perimeters. That date of removal deadline has now been <br />set for on or about April 30, 1982. It is our understanding <br />that Southold Heritage is very near to implementing their <br />desire to remove the house and relocate the same. <br />It must be emphasized that our client's site plan, which <br />included this area, was approved by the Area Plan Commission <br />as well as the City Council for purposes of a parking lot. <br />A clear understanding with all interested parties, as well as <br />the Plan Commission and the City Council when this property <br />was rezoned, was that the house would be removed and the <br />land upon which it stool be used for parking spaces needed <br />as a prerequisite to rezoning.
