Historic <br />Preservation <br />1522 K Street NW, <br />Washington D.C. <br />20005 <br />December 7, 1979 <br />Mr. Ted Wasielewski <br />South Bend Redevelopment <br />Department <br />County/City Building <br />227 West Jefferson Boulevard <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Dear Mr. Wasielewski: <br />We have been informed that the acquisition of the Odd Fellows <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana, with a Community Development <br />Block Grant, an undertaking of the City of South Bend may have <br />41 an effect on that property. <br />The Odd Fellows Building may possess cultural and architectural <br />significance and therefore may be eligible for inclusion in <br />the National Register of Historic Places. <br />Section 800.4(a) of the Council's regulations, "Protection of <br />Historic and Cultural Properties" (36 CFR Part 800), sets <br />forth the method of evaluating the significance of such <br />properties. We understand that you have initiated this <br />evaluation and request that you inform us of the results of <br />the process. If the evaluation results in a determination by <br />the Secretary of the Interior that the property is eligible <br />for inclusion in the National Register, you should follow the <br />remaining steps in Section 800.4 to evaluate the effect of the <br />undertaking on the property and, if appropriate, request the <br />Council's comments.
