November 22, 1976
Page 8,
districts. Mr. Smith referred this matter to Ted Wasielew-
ski who was advised to report to the Commission.
Staff Report
Ms. Rita Kopczynski informed the Commission that the CETA
position which was previously denied was then reviewed and
approved by the mayor and.controller and now would be in
effect until September 30, 1977, pending arrival of CETA
funds from the federal government.
She then spoke about the East Race River Wall and Canoe
Portage statement which was covered earlier. She also
mentioned that the Commission had received a letter from
Lawson -Fisher asking the Commission to co-operate on a couple
of other projects. She read this letter to the Commission
and then read the reply she had drafted which, in essence,
stated that the Commission was aware of the problem but
could not now do anything in this regard. It was mentioned
that Marsha Mullin could perhaps be prevailed upon to do some
of the historical research involved. A discussion ensued as
to whether or not the Commission could accept payment for
doing this kind of work. Mr. Smith suggested that Mr. Dunfee
be contacted on this matter.
7. Old Business
Mr. Oxian reported that he had been interviewed on the "Chronicle"
show on WNDU and.had discussed the Beiger Heritage Foundation.
Ms. Davisson and Ms. Sporleder said it could possibly be improper
to take a stand as a member of the Commission without discussing
it before with the Commission. There was discussion on just what
policy the Commission should take in regard to such matters.
8. New Business
Ms. Sporleder mentioned that it might consider for purchase a
a reproduction of the "Sweets Catalog". No action was taken
in this matter.
Mr. Oxian then mentioned that the National Trust Convention --
would meet in Chicago in 1978 and he suggested that the Commis-
sion should think about whether it could set up something like
a walking tour within the city. There was discussion on this
matter and Mr. Smith voiced the opinion that it was a good idea.
Mr. Oxian then stated that an announcement in the paper that
the Commission is holding these monthly meetings should be made.
It was decided that perhaps Jenne Derbeck could write a short
article and. that the office could notify her before the meeting
is to be held. She could also be provided with an agenda so
that'she could write the article accordingly.
