<br />ORDINANCE NO. ~~ <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA AMENDING ORDINANCE 9243-01 TO INCREASE THE ANNUAL PAY FOR <br />A SOUTH BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT PATROLMAN FIRST CLASS <br />TO $40,000 IN 2005 AND TO ADJUST HEALTH INSURANCE CONTRIBUTIONS OF <br />ALL MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT IN 2005 <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />On August 19, 2001 this Council adopted Substitute Ordinance 9243-01 as amended, which <br />ordinance fixed the annual pay and monetary fringe benefits for members of the South Bend Police <br />Department for calendar years 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. Pursuant to that ordinance, the annual <br />pay in 2005 for a patrolman first class would be $38,806. The patrolman first class annual pay also <br />affects benefits paid to retired police officers as it is the basis for calculation of pension benefits. <br />It is in the best interests of the City of South Bend that the patrolman first class pay be increased in <br />2005 to $40,000. It is also appropriate in 2005 that members of the South Bend Police Department <br />contribute the same monthly sum toward health insurance as Teamsters and other City employees. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND as follows: <br />Section I. Ordinance 9243-01 (substitute ordinance as amended), Section II, is hereby <br />amended to increase in calendar year 2005 the annual pay of a Patrolman First Class from $38,806 <br />to $40,000. <br />Section II. Ordinance No. 9243-O1 (substitute ordinance as amended) Section III, Subpart <br />N, is further amended to change for 2005 the amount of monthly contribution to health insurance <br />coverage by officers and sworn members of the South Bend Police Department from $65.00 to <br />$42.00 for Single coverage, and from $125.00 to $112.00 for Family coverage. <br />Section III. This amendment shall not affect or modify any other terms and conditions of <br />original ordinance 9243-01. <br />Section IV.
