NEW BUSINESS (Cont.) <br />a. continued... <br />the South Bend Redevelopment <br />Commission with regulations of the <br />Department of Housing and Urban <br />Development effectuating Title VI of the <br />Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended. <br />Ms. Auburn opened the Public Hearing <br />on Resolution No. 1283 for whomever <br />wished to speak. <br />Mr. Senff, of Parkview Juvenile Center, <br />explained the new juvenile center <br />planned to be constructed in the Sample - <br />Ewing Development Area on the <br />property which includes the Polack <br />property. <br />The location of the new juvenile facility <br />is a site roughly bounded by Michigan <br />Street on the West, Ohio Street on the <br />north, Carroll or Fellows Street on the <br />east, and a new street near the former <br />Paris Avenue on the south. <br />Mr. Senff described the inadequacy of <br />the current facility and the community's <br />need for a new facility. The present <br />facility has . sixteen beds yet frequently <br />houses 35 youth. The new facility will <br />have three pods to house the residents. <br />Each pod will have an 18 -bed capacity <br />for a total capacity of 54 residents. The <br />new facility will also have a dining area, <br />a gym, counseling rooms, probation <br />office space, court rooms, and multi - <br />agency office space. <br />
