WAS DELETED FROM THE <br />AGENDA <br />Mrs. Kolata asked permission to consider item 6.j. <br />at this time. There was no objection. <br />j. Commission aunroval requested for Parking <br />Management Agreement with AMPCO <br />Mr. Horton explained that the Controller's <br />office has had oversight of the City's parking <br />garages on Jefferson and Colfax since their <br />construction in 1972 until about six months <br />ago when they were turned over to the Park <br />Department. They have been both a <br />management and financial problem since 1972 <br />because the City has no expertise in managing <br />parking garages. Rather than going to the <br />expense of developing that expertise, at <br />additional cost, we have decided to turn the <br />management over to a private company. <br />AMPCO has managed several parking <br />garages and parking lots in the community <br />and has been interested in taking over <br />management of the City's garages. They <br />submitted a proposal to provide management <br />for a cost of $1,000 per month which <br />effectively cuts the City's expenses by <br />$70,000 per year immediately. They will <br />market and promote use of the garages and <br />-53- <br />
