South Bend edevelcpment Conmi.ssion
Regular Mee ing - December 8, 1989
=M
Mr. Wolf asked Ms. Bonham if she thought an
office building on that site would have an
adverse effect on the long term Convention
and Tourism goals. Ms. Bonham responded that
in the best of worlds, this site could be
saved for hotel use in the future. It is an
ideal site for a hotel. The concept of a
hotel on the present parking lot of Century
Center is also an excellent idea. But growth
in exhibit space must go hand in hand with
growth in hotel space, and as Century Center
considexs moving the Studebaker exhibit from
Discovery Hall to obtain more exhibit space,
they are not sure there would be enough
demand to justify that. Having more space
doesn't guarantee more business. It merely
offers the opportunity to solicit a different
market.
Mrs. Kol to noted that no decision has been
made on the hotel proposal. The Commission
is waiting for more information from the
developer and is still in the exclusive
negotiating period with the developer.
Ms. Bonb m stated that since that is such a
prime s' for a hotel, if, and when, one is
built e, it should be a full service,
convent' n hotel offering roam service and
food seriice.
Mrs. Kol to reported to the Comnission that
Coldwell Banker moved their commercial office
to downtown South Bend. It is now located on
the first floor of the One Michiana Square
Office Building. We would like to welcome
them herb.
Mr. Wolf reported that a new store, called
The Crockery, has opened in Center City
Place.
The next Regular Meeting of the Redevelopment
Commission is scheduled for December 22,
1989, at 10:00 a.m.
-14-
NEXT COMNBSSION MEETING
