ROLL gULL (Cont.) <br />Zhe was called to order at 4:27 p.m. <br />as the erified petition and Auditor's <br />Certificate were not complete until that <br />time. <br />Mayor &rnan <br />expressed regrets that Mr. Nimtz <br />and Ms. <br />Auburn could not be present for this <br />iwportant.veeting. <br />He introduced Mr. Jerry <br />Hammes, <br />Co- Chairman of the Citizens for a New <br />Corridor <br />Ccmuittee and Ms. Margaret King, <br />Vol <br />Organizer. Mayor Kernan, Mr. <br />env' <br />Ms. King presented to the <br />Commiss <br />324 counterparts of the petition <br />vision <br />the Cbamnission to authorize the <br />Crea ` <br />of bonds for the redevelopment of <br />the Studoaker <br />Corridor. Those 324 <br />agree:; <br />contain 6331 valid signatures <br />verifi <br />by the Auditor as property taxpayers <br />in the9 <br />of South Bend. <br />Mayor A <br />rnan stated that this is, to our <br />knowl <br />, the largest single effort at <br />gather' <br />signatures in the community in <br />support <br />of the issuance of bonds. It will <br />permit <br />to begin the process within the <br />Corridor of creating an <br />env' <br />where we can preserve and protect <br />the 15 <br />jobs in the Corridor and fulfill the <br />vision <br />providing the environment for <br />Crea ` <br />900 new jobs. It has been 26 years <br />since. <br />closed its doors, and we all <br />agree:; <br />t woe have waited long enough to <br />remove <br />physical scar of those buildings <br />that:- <br />oy no people and pay no taxes and to <br />81 ,. a <br />the psychological scar.
