South Bend I Redevelopment Commission
ReschedUlej Regular Meeting - November 18, 1988
4. QgV CATIONS (Cont. )
a. conuinuea...
Washington - Chapin Redevelopment
We have been working with an urban
M-ig firm from Chicago to study the
borhood, consider its strengths,
ems, and potentials, and make a
s of recc miendations regarding
e action.
The WWCRP has attempted to reach out to
all. segments of our neighborhood and
secure the participation of everyone in
our planning activities. Some of the
reccmmendations that we will be making
may, be supported by everyone who
li es or works in the area. We are doing
everything we can to consider all points
of view and achieve concensus.
At this point in our work, the WWCRP
Board and General Membership have already
voted to support a redevelopment approach
in the Washington- Walnut commercial
district that will involve significant
changes. It will be the recommendation
of the WWCRP that some specific
prcperties in this area are acquired,
businesses relocated, buildings
demolished and sites cleared, in order to
allDw for development of new low income
hou3ing and a new small neighborhood
shopping center. Additional
recmmiendations will be made regarding
d opment on Chapin Street.
We are excited by the potential for
sucmssful development in our
nei rhood. We look forward to
presenting our completed reccmavndations
to rhe Redevelopment Commission in the
n future.
amin Tyler
Mr. Nimtz received the letter into the
record and placed it on file.
-4-
