3 � j <br /> r <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 8 0 9-9.9 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> AMENDING ARTICLES 1 AND 2 OF CHAPTER 17 <br /> OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO PRETREATMENT <br /> REQUIREMENTS FOR THE USE OF THE PUBLIC SEWERS <br /> STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br /> The purpose of this ordinance is to amend portions of Articles <br /> 1 and 2 of Chapter 17 of the Municipal Code to bring the City' s <br /> sewage pretreatment requirements into compliance with current <br /> federal pretreatment regulations . This ordinance incorporates <br /> recent revisions in the federal regulations, and is in response to <br /> suggestions made in a federally funded review of our current <br /> ordinance requirements . <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the <br /> City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows : <br /> SECTION I . Section 17-3 of Article 1, Chapter 17 of the South <br /> Bend Municipal Code is amended to read as follows : <br /> Sec. 17-3 . Application of City Engineering Standards and One- and <br /> Two-Family Dwelling Code by reference. <br /> The South Bend Engineering Standards and the One- and Two- <br /> Family Dwelling Code, together with any and all amendments and <br /> supplements thereto, adopted in sections 18-1 and 6 76-5 <br /> respectively, are incorporated herein by reference thereto and shall <br /> be applicable to this chapter. <br /> SECTION II . Division 1 of Article 2, Chapter 17 of the South <br /> _ Bend Municipal Code is amended to read as follows : <br /> ARTICLE 2 . SEWERS <br /> DIVISION 1 . DEFINITIONS <br /> Sec. 17-5 . Definitions . <br /> As used in this article: <br /> ACT (or "THE ACT") shall mean the Federal Water Pollution <br /> Control Act, also know as the Clean Water Act, as amended, 33 U.S .C. <br /> 1251, et seq . <br /> AMMONIA (or NH3-N) shall mean the same as Ammonia Nitrogen <br /> measured as Nitrogen. The laboratory determinations shall be made <br /> in accordance with procedures set forth in "Standard Methods" as <br /> defined in this article. <br /> BIOCHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND (or BOD) of sewage, sewage effluent, <br />
