STAFF REPORT July 12, 1993
Area Plan Commission 1538-93
Location:
City of South Bend
REQUESTED ACTION: This is an Area Plan Commission initiated
petition to amend South Bend's current
regulations concerning development within
floodplains. The proposed ordinance would
repeal the existing floodplain regulations and
replace them with new standards as mandated by
changes in State and Federal regulations. The
proposed changes are necessary in order to
ensure that City residents will continue to be
eligible for flood insurance. Most of the
existing regulations will remain intact. The
required amendments mainly deal with adding
new definitions and making adjustments
throughout the ordinance with relation to the
new or changed definitions. The proposed
ordinance has been reviewed by the Indiana
Department of Natural Resources to ensure that
the amendments are in line with the new State
and Federal regulations.
