South Bend 4edevelopment Commission <br />Annual Orga izational Meeting - January 2, 1987 <br />5. SET EMT-AR MEETING TIMES FOR 1 987 (Cont.) <br />Commission will be held on the 2nd and 4th <br />Fridays of each month at 10:00 a.m. local <br />time. <br />7. <br />Mr. Hunt. noted that 1986 was a good year for PROGRESS REPORTS <br />the CormLission, the Department, and the <br />community. We saw the start of several <br />substan ial projects on the East Bank, <br />including the first phase of the renovation of <br />the old Robertson's warehouse and the <br />construction of the Sports Medicine Center. <br />We also saw the start and completion of two <br />major office buildings in the downtown, One <br />Michiana Square and Teachers Credit Union, as <br />well as the completion of the first phase of <br />the reorening of Michigan Street. The Skywalk <br />between Century Center and the Marriott will <br />soon be finished, and will be a real boost to <br />the corqetitiveness of Century Center as a <br />regional conference and convention center. <br />The Mo oe Park light industrial area was also <br />complet d. <br />We face some challenges in 1987: the Tax <br />Reform Act affected real estate taxes and may <br />cause s me down -time until people adjust to <br />it, but we expect to be able to locate a <br />mid -siz d office project in the downtown, and, <br />in conjunction with Center City Associates, <br />are agrE,ssively recruiting some small retail <br />businesses. The former Robertson's and J.C. <br />Penney buildings pose a problem, but they are <br />challen es we think we can meet. <br />The ne Regular Commission Meeting will be ADJOURNMENT <br />January 9, 1987 at 10:00 a.m. <br />There being no further business to come before <br />the Organizational Meeting of the <br />Redevel pment C mrr, -sion, Mr., omb. made a <br />motn to adjourn the meeting at 10:10 a.m. <br />Mr. Don ho seconded by the motion and it was <br />unanimo sly carried. <br />-3- <br />ve Di <br />
