Jannotta & Associates did the last housing market study of the East Bank ar a, completed in September 1984, and ha e agreed to update it at a very reasonable cost. Mr. Nimtz recommended that the Commission contract with him for the update. The update will cost $4,800 plus approximately $1,000 for uses and will be completed within 30 Upcn a motion by Mr. Combs, seconded by Mr. Piasecki and unanimously carried, the Commission approved:a contract with Nicholas C. Jannotta & Associates for th update of the housing market an lysis for the East Bank. C. Ccumission approval requested for a co tract with Walker Parking Consultants for schematic design services in the South Bend Central Development Area. Mr. Hunt noted that the preliminary parking study for the entire downtown, which the department has been working on in conjunction with MACOG, is nearly co plete and that in order to be attractive to developers, the downtown ne ds to have more long term parking for office employees. Mrs. Kolata pointed out the site that is being considered as a rossible location for a parking garage. The site is the current surface lot at the corner of Wayne Street and St. Joseph Street, behind the old J.C. Penney store. The Redevelopment Commission currently owns this property. ThE site is a good location for a parking garage, but may not offer enough parking spaces for the cost. Walker Parking Consultants would do schematic design, showing how many parking spaces could be created and what the pr liminary costs would be. Mr. Hunt exTlained that the staff had requested an reviewed proposals from several consultant firms and recommended that Walker Parking Consultants be awarded -3- COMMISSION APPROVED A CONTRACT WITH NICHOLAS C.
