Airport Economic Development Area <br /> (1) continued... <br /> funding allocated by Memorandum of <br /> Understanding #1 (MOU#1), approved by <br /> the Redevelopment Commission in March <br /> 2012. The purpose of the funding allotment <br /> in MOU#1 was to provide power equipment <br /> and services to upgrade facility service to a <br /> minimum 5 MW capacity. <br /> Staff requests approval of this professional <br /> service contract in the amount of$165,000. <br /> Mr. Davis noted that the new documentation <br /> provided shows concern for the increased <br /> risk of cancer. Mr. Schalliol noted that <br /> research has been inconclusive regarding <br /> health risks associated with power line <br /> placement. However, the power line that is <br /> proposed would be no different than any <br /> other power line in the general electric grid <br /> in that neighborhood. <br /> Mr. Davis said that his concern is the <br /> additional power lines along with <br /> electromagnetic fields caused by nearby <br /> trains, in combination with microwaves used <br /> in the Housing Authority apartments. this <br /> does not make reference to the trains and the <br /> power line together. Mr. Schalliol responded <br /> that the material did touch on trains, <br /> electromagnetic fields generated off of trains, <br /> and other common sources of equipment and <br /> service. A group of scientists would have to <br /> be hired to determine what the level is at the <br /> present time with the trains and the additional <br /> power. It is something that could be looked <br /> into. Mr. Davis said he preferred to have that <br /> 15 <br />
