If single hung, <br />fixed sash may remain in-place if all friction / impact surface <br />paint can be removed. Remove all storm windows. Secure <br />window openings while work is being performed. All areas not <br />be stripped of paint shall be protected. <br />LBP shall be stripped from all friction/impact surfaces, including <br />entire window trough, utilizing a caustic paint stripper (or other <br />EPA and Owner approved method). Paint shall be removed in <br />accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and <br />specifications. Collect residue and rinse water in proper <br />containers, characterize and properly dispose. Neutralize and <br />rinse surface in accordance with manufacturer's directions. <br />Following paint removal, document paint removal <br />photographically or obtain approval of work from Owner / Owner <br />Representative. Prime and paint with a high-quality latex paint. <br />Owner choice of color. <br />All Jambs, exterior casings, lintels and other nonfriction/impact <br />deteriorated LBP window components shall be wet scraped and <br />encapsulated with an elastomeric encapsulant to create a <br />continuous seal over the surface in accordance with the <br />manufacturer's specifications. Encapsulant must be <br />pre-approved by Owner. Use the required number of coats and <br />coverage rate to guarantee a minimum 20-year manufacturer's <br />warranty. <br />All damaged wood shall be repaired using an approved epoxy, <br />wood filler or other appropriate material. If beyond repair, wood <br />shall be replaced with in-kind replacement materials. Existing <br />hardware to be reused. If missing, replacement shall match <br />existing. Maintain existing structure and characteristics of <br />existing window components. Replace all broken glass and <br />re-glaze. Repair damage, missing or otherwise deteriorated <br />window glazing. <br />Fill weight "pockets," if present, with minimally expanding foam <br />or fiberglass insulation. Install PVC, white, jamb liner channels <br />and spring clip window controls on existing jambs. Install stool, <br />stops and parting bead. Install window sash into jamb liners in <br />accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. Window <br />shall properly operate at same capacity as originally installed <br />(i.e. single hung will operate single hung, etc.) <br />All window work shall be completed in accordance with the <br />National Park Service's Historic Preservation Brief 9 - The <br />Repair of Historic Wooden Windows. Upon completion of <br />abatement there will be no remaining friction / impact surfaces <br />with remaining LBP. <br />Page 8 of 25
