South Bend Commission
Regular Mee edevelopment
ing April 23, 1982
6. NEW BUSINESS (Continued)
a. continued ....
a
to rd non- union. Their intent is to do away
wit union work in the entirety and I think the
Co fission is sensative to that.
)mrrission consideration requested for a
)x abatement r6 uett relative to an area
)m onl v referred to as ' 121 1468t ' Col fax
Avenue (Kenneth'Robert Peczkowski).
Mr. Robert Parker, attorney for Mr. Pecskowski,
sta ed the petition involves the Griffon Book
Sto e.
The building is immediately east of People's
Federal Savings & Loan, on Colfax between Main
and Michigan Streets. Mr. Peczkowski purchased
this property from Charles Sonneborn last summer.
He is now in the process of negotiating with con-
tractors for improvements, he has an architect
and ie has drawings prepared for the renovation
of t is building. It will house the Griffon
Book Store which is one of the remaining busi-
ness s on Michigan Street, two doors north of
Osco's. He will maintain in the property the
same type of business he is operating now. He
will utilize the basement, first floor, and
second floor of the building, all of which will
be r modeled. This building does have three
floors and maybe in the future there will be
a us2 of the third floor. He will operate his
book store and a game room as he does now on
Michigan Street. It is my understanding this
prop rty is out of the present tax abatement
area, so there needs to be an extension of this
area for this particular property. It has been
vacant since Dial Finance was there. This is a
downtown businessman who definitely desires to
stay in the downtown.
Mr, cMahon stated that the staff recommends
that the Commission refer this favorably to the
City Council.
Upon a motion by P-1r. Robinson, seconded by Ms.
Aubu n and unanimously carried, the staff re-
port recommending to the Council that the tax
abat ment be granted was approved.
TAX ABATEMENT REQUEST FOR
KENNETH ROBERT PECZKOWSKI
WAS APPROVED (121 W.COLFAX)
