NEXT COOMISSION [1EETING (continued) <br />I <br />was ten years old, I can remember seeing plans on the <br />dining room table for a new downtown South Bend, with <br />parking garages and the whole bit, but those kind of <br />things are worth about as much as Lloyd Allen's plan, <br />and this plan out here that you said we ought to torch, <br />and all those other things. They are good for ideas, <br />it's ju t... I'm one minute late for an appointment with <br />Joe Ker an. <br />Mr. Nim z: Thank you, Councilman. <br />Ms. Der beck: May I change the subject briefly? <br />Mr. Nim z: We recognize the press. <br />Mr. But er: Jean Derbeck wants to change the subject <br />from th Odd Fellows Building, I thought this was her <br />red let er day. <br />Ms. Der beck: I just want to ask you all, informally, <br />if you saw last Sunday's Chicago Tribune. It had a very <br />complimentary remark about the architecture of the First <br />Bank Center. The Tribune's famous pulitzer prize winner <br />architecture critic... It was really about Chicago Archi- <br />tects, and it mentioned Helmut Jahn as the undisputed <br />crown p ince of Chicago architects. And it said, I don't <br />know, h s very fine, spectacular whatever complimentary <br />example of his atrium - office building is the First Bank <br />Center n South Bend, Indiana. <br />Mr. But er: The Marriott is using that picture of that <br />buildin in its National ads, the Wall Street Journal, <br />at leas the mid -west edition. <br />Mr. Nimtz: Run a copy, will you please. <br />Ms. Der6eck: Of course, it's just a small part. <br />Ms. Aubdrn: We'll take it. <br />Mr. Nim z: Is there anything further to come before the <br />Commission?
