South Bend Commission
Special Mee edevelopment
ing - February 2, 1981
6. NEW BUSIINESS
a. Mrsl. Kolata continues...
two separate stages. This Resolution does it all at
the same time.
Mr. McMahon: As you know, should you choose to act
favorably on this Resolution, it then goes to the
Area Plan Commission and the Common Council for hear-
ings before it comes back here for public hearing and
a final confirmation, so there will be a number of
di ferent opportunities for residents in the area to
ad ress this particular issue.
I ould like to note that we do have some information
that has been submitted to us for consideration by
Mr. T. Brooks Brademas with respect to housing in the
neighborhood that will be reviewed by the staff and a
recommendation offered with regard to that.
Mr. Nimtz: I might say that Mrs. Kolata and I met
with Southhold Heritage Foundation, which is the
expertise group concerning West Washington and West
Colfax Avenues, the other morning. I would say the
plan was well received. There were questions asked,
but really no opposition at all. They raised questions
about the house moves and the streets being closed and
so on, but there was no opposition. We are also plan -
ni g to present this to the Historic Preservation
Co ission at a later date.
Mr. McMahon: Mrs. Kolata has also met with the Board
from the Southeast P.A.C. Would you have any comments?
Mrs. Kolata: I would say that they also had a lot of
qu stions regarding the plan. One of the things that
became apparent during the meeting was the desire of
some of the owners of houses scheduled for moving to
remain in those houses after the move. The overall
impression of the Board was that they felt this plan
was a lot closer to what they wanted to see happen
in the neighborhood, then what had originally been
discussed, and they seemed to be very satisfied with
that.
Mr
Mr!
, Nimtz: Was Mrs. Hernandez there?
,. Kolata: Yes, she was.
0
