South Bend edevelopment Commission
Regular Mee ing - January 2, 1981
b. Mr.l Sweeney continues....
in matters where we -have had controversy
on closings on property that we took by
eminent domain the independent appraisals
by the people who own the property came
very close to what these people had appraised.
Mr. Cira: That is what I wanted to know. I
know that if I were the owner I would have my
own appraiser come in. I'm not saying that
they are doing anything wrong, I just wanted
to know how you go about it.
Mr. Nimtz: It's a matter of professional in -.
to rity, in that Charlie and I can be on opposite
si es of a case and know a certain thing, yet we
car go out and have lunch together, which a client
ne er understands, and be good friends and yet
ne I-
ctive r reveal situations concerning our own re
sp sides of the fence.
Mrs. Kolata: I would point out that the fair
market value as determined by this Proclaimer is
thE average of those twcr appraisals on each piece
of property. We simply add them together and
divide them by two, so we don't feel that there
is any large discrepancy between any of them.
Th t was one of the things that was looked at
in the review.
Mr. Nimtz: A lot of it, I would say, as Chuck
says, is experience. They have been in this
fi ld a long time. Mr. Gettel is from out of
town but has done a lot of this work, not only
here, but in other places, and he is well ex-
q fenced and I think we have two very well
qu lifed people.
Do I hear a second to the adoption of Resolution
Nod 631.
Mr Cira seconded the motion and it was unani-
mo sly carried.
d. Co fission approval requested for Executive
Director to execute Proclaimer Certificate No.
1_ Pstnhlishim the fair market value for 'aro-
-8-
