South BendlRedevelopment Commission
Regular Me ting - April 11, 1980
7. PROGRESS REPORTS
Mr Ellison: Ms. Derbeck, you may notice
th t the work we are asking the architects
to do was to be completed by next Friday.
Obidously, that suggests some urgency so
you should not presume hat.we are stalling.
. Allen: When do we get to hear about
it review?
Mr Ellison: I presume we would schedule
th t at our next meeting. There are no
pl s to have a special meeting.
Ms Derbeck: Is Mr. Kalman still in
th picture?
Mr. Ellison: Yes, very much so. We
ar involved in the 30 -day negotiation
period with the firm. We talked and
have had several meetings with the local
people and their attorneys are working
with Mr. Butler and things are moving
al ny.
Mr . Allen: Is this Borger /Jones connected
with Mr. Kalman?
Mr. Ellison: No, they are doing this as
our clients. We have retained the firm
to provide us with guidelines that are
rather exact with respect to how that
building can be done assuming the brick
is saved, etc.
We need to have a method for evaluating
independent of what Kalman & Company may
tell us, what the effect of that exterior
treatment would be. In their proposal
they also want to look at the relationship
of this treatment of the building to the
overall mall project. That is a secondary
objective. Their instructions are that if
they can do that within the timeframe, find.
If they cannot, we advised them not to worry
about it right now. They are working for us
specifically to deliver a rendering showing
the extent to which cleaning the brick and
re airing the terra cotta can work and what
it might look like.
28
