South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Me ting -T February 15, 1980
7. PROGRESS REPORTS
Mr. N r tz: Last year the Governor had a
conference on downtown development which
proved to be more successful than anybody DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING
had anticipated. He is now having a second 2ND ANNUAL GOVERNOR'S
conference and Mr. John Kagel is on the CONFERENCE BEING HELD
Steering Committee of that conference, IN INDIANAPOLIS, IND.
Mr. Ka el, please make an announcement for us.
Mr. Ka el: This program is terribly
important to the State because our efforts
are surported by the Presidents urban
policy which requires federal agencies
to tar et resources to areas where existing
facilities investment will result in reducing
urban Eprawl and energy consumption. This
conference is very interesting because
South lend has been selected to be one of
the featured cities. As a matter of fact,
the Honorable F. Jay Nimtz is a moderator
of one of the four panels. The conference
will be held March 5 and 6 in Indianapolis.
Four tables have been set aside for South Bend's
display and exhibit, That means models, handout
materials, maps, charts, etc. Last year there
were over 400 people present, and this year
they anticipate a much larger attendance
because we found out, upon conclusion of
the two day conference last year, that we
had to get into the real nuts and bolts
of the situation. This conference is
very e citing because it covers both downtown
South Bend and one of South Bend's neighborhoods.
It is ite an honor that the Governor's
Steeri g Committee would select this community.
Ms. Auburn made a motion that the Redevelopment
staff, and members of the Commission desiring to
attend the 2nd Annual Governor's Conference in
Indianapolis, Indiana, be permitted to do so,
and if feasible, that any displays be sent down
fore ibit, seconded by Mr. Donaldson, and
the mo ion was unanimously carried.
8. NEXT COMMISSION MEETING
The ne t regularly scheduled South Bend Redevelopment NEXT COMMISSION
Commission Meeting will be held on Friday, March 7, MEETING
1980 at 10:00 A.M.
-20-
