South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Me ting - October 17, 1980
6. NEW BUSINESS
b. co W nued...
Mrs. Baumgartner: Fine, but we have to maintain a
co sistent approach to our contractors, and this
20 is our cut-off point. It would be a cut -off
point for an old or a new contractor. The premise
for that is that if you get too far below the cost
es imate, the contractor must cut corners in some
pa ticular work.
Mr Cira: You have follow-up people to make sure
he doesn't, don't you.
Mrs. Baumgartner: Of course we do.
Mr Cira: Well, if he is willing to do it, I would
le him do it.
Mr Nimtz: Bob, we were in a quandry really what
to do on these, and the thing got down to the poor
property owner sits there while you are having a
fight to get the guy to complete it and do it right.
Mr .
fe'
we
Mr
in
Cira: I realize that, Mr. Nimtz, but if this
low is a legitimate contractor, I don't know why
can't give it to him.
McMahon: Has Stickler ever failed to perform
the paste
Baumgartner: No, he has not.
Mr McMahon: Are you having problems with him on
pr sent jobs?
Mr;. Baumgartner: No, we are not. We may say,
however, that Dick Stickler is new in the general
co tracting business. Formerly he appeared with
thR Bureau as a plumber. He is in the process of
tw jobs, and I could not tell you whether or not
he will handle these large jobs properly or not.
He has handled the clean -ups very well.
10
