Redevelopm nt Commission Regular Meeting
September 5, 1978
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont'd)
b. Jbicontract ission approval reg
for elects
recommendation of
ect to le al counse
cil approval, as ap
uested for award of the followin
ical, Contract 002/A, in accordance
award
the South 'Advisory Boi
I review and South Bei
plicable:
Contract Set #002 /A
F & F Electric, Inc.
(electrical contract)
$11,490.00
Mr. Ellison: If you will look at the tabulation sheets in your
packet, you will note that this was the only bid received for that
particular job, and that the bid amount greatly exceeds the estimate.
Mr. Harcus is here and can perhaps explain more on this matter.
Mr. Harcus: As the tabulation sheet states, our estimate is
based on the prevailing residential rates. This account was
actually bid on the commercial rate, which is much higher.
Our estimate is very inaccurate. We bid the job twice, and
only one bidder came in with the consistent price of $11,490.00.
We discussed it with all the people involved at the Center, and
we are recommending that you accept it so that the job may run.
Mr. Robinson made a motion that the electrical contract be
awarded to F & F Electric, Inc. for $11,490.00, subject to
legal counsel review and South Bend Common Council approval,
seconded by Mr. Donaldson, and the motion was unanimously carried.
. Kagel: Excuse me for one moment. Wouldn't it be nice if
public were informed what this particular job is? You
de reference to the term "Center ". What is it, Century Center
what?
Mr. Wiggins: No, the center referred to in all the change orders
come out of different areas. There is an area center which has a
group composed of area residents, local residents, contractors,
and people from our staff, who go over these things, explore the
whole thing on site, and then made recommendations to us.
Mr. Kagel: Is this for a single job or a group of jobs?
Mr. Ellison: This is for the Southeast neighborhood center itself.
It then comes before the South Advisory Board, which is composed
of what Mr. Wiggins has indicated.
-4-
AWARD OF
BID CONTRACT
