South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—September 13, 2012
be businesses, which pay higher taxes.
Mr. Downes asked what the next steps were
and what the timeline is. Mr. Schalliol
responded that once a decision is made,
which path is taken, staff will begin the
process of having properties appraised,
putting together relocation packages,
finalizing development plans and beginning
acquisition. The state is well under its way
with its construction project, with completion
expected late fall of 2013.
Mr. Downes asked if at the next Commission
meeting that staff could furnish results of the
survey, and whether this item can be on the
agenda for final action. Mr. Inks stated that
that would be the goal.
Mr. Schalliol noted the correspondence
regarding this project and asked that the
Communications be made part of the record:
9/12/12
Dear sir,
It is my understanding that the best options
concerning the Fellows St. Project will be
presented tomorrow. I have been told,
whether true or not, that it will be option A
and C that will be presented. I was also told
that I would be asked my opinion as one of
the homes included for demolition in option
A by today. I have heard nothing. I AM in
favor of option A and option D (if it is still
on the table). Option C, in my opinion, is
worse than doing nothing at all!1 First of all
you are shutting off Fellows St. to everyone.
I, myself, as well as those around me and I'm
sure if asked, most of Southmore residents,
do not want to go all the way to Michigan St.
26
