TION CONTRACT
NO. 37, R -66
Mr. C. Wayne Brownell, Executive Director, advised this demoli-
tion is for the three- story, masonry building, which is being
used as an office by the Director of the River Bend Plaza in
the North storefront section; the South storefront section was
used by Johnni Spagnolo. We have given Mr. Spagnolo a notice
to quit by April 15 and he has rented the quarters vacated by
Fox's Jewelry Co., Inc., 139 South Michigan Street, and was in.
the process of moving in the new quarters yesterday.
In answer to Ms. Derbeck's question as to where the River Bend
Plaza Office will move to, Mr. Brownell advised they are work-
ing on a lease on another location downtown. When this is
finalized, we will then advertise for the above demolition. Ms.
Derbeck also asked why we are tearing the building down when we
do not have a developer for it, and Mr. Brownell explained the
demolition of this building is part of the plan we have with
HUD, for Project Indiana R -66. HUD is insisting we complete
the plan and demolish the building. It will make the parcel
available. The other building in the plan that calls for demoli-
tion is the old gasoline station at 330 Lincoln Way East (Parcel
No. 14 -5), which is being used as a construction office by Nautilus
Construction Corporation while they are working on Plaza Park. We
have a month -to -month lease on this building with Nautilus. HUD is
requesting both buildings be demolished by June 1, or before. We
have not issued a notice to quit to Nautilus Construction for the
use of the building, as they are still working on Plaza Park.
Motion was made by Mr. Wiggins, seconded by Mr. Donaldson and
carried, for the authorization to advertise Demolition & Site Clear-
ance Contract No. 37.
- 3 -
