7. <br />E-03 <br />VP <br />SS REPORTS (Cont'd <br />4) E -7 Bureau of Housing Report: Mr. Keith P. Crighton, <br />Director, Bureau of Housing, submitted a written <br />report, and advised during the month of March, <br />twenty (20) additional contracts were opened <br />for bid and were presented, in today's Commission <br />meeting and awarded. The total number of homes <br />on contract at this time is forty -three (43). <br />One contract has been completed and four are pre- <br />sently being worked on by Madison Construction <br />and Ted Combs Decorating & Construction. <br />One contract has been set up for RENEW, Inc. and <br />they have expressed intent for an additional six <br />(6) units. <br />Approximate budget obligations amount to: <br />$267,990.97. <br />IRE PLUG AWARD PRESENTATION <br />Dmmissioner Wiggins, on behalf of the South Bend Beautification <br />Dundation, Inc., serving as Director, had deemed it advisable <br />nd a privilege to present to the Redevelopment Commissioners <br />Dr their good wishes and support of the Fire Plug Painting Pro - <br />ram some awards that he had. Presented to each of the Commis - <br />ioners was a miniature Fire Plug (Sparky). Commissioner Donald - <br />Dn is on vacation and will receive his presentation upon his <br />eturn. <br />mmissioner Wiggins said these awards are made as special <br />and for the kinds of services and help rendered by people in <br />siness and by people doing good things in this regard, and that <br />will be presenting to the Board of Directors at the next meeting, <br />at additional Fire Plug Awards be made to Mr. Edward F. Soltesz, <br />om the River Bend Plaza Advisory Group, and Mr. John R. Kagel, <br />om the Chamber of Commerce. <br />resident Nimtz, speaking in behalf of the Redevelopment Com- <br />ission, conveyed the Commissioners' thanks to The South Bend <br />eautification Foundation for the "Sparky" awards. <br />ETTER OF COMMENDATION <br />resident Nimtz advised in our last Commission meeting (March <br />1, 1975), in passing out bouquets (Letters of Commendation), <br />hat we forgot to mention Mr. James Seitz, Superintendent of the <br />epartment of Parks and Recreation. Mr. Seitz had worked until <br />:00 a.m., for the occasion of President Gerald R. Ford's appear - <br />nce in the downtown area in South Bend and the St. Patrick's <br />ay celebration. He had his crews set everything up and after - <br />ards in taking everything down.
