A •
HISTORIC DEVELOPMENT
This lamp-post was probably erected between 1916 when the Harter Heights
neighborhood was platted as part of the city of South Bend and otherwise
developed for housing and 1926 by which year the houses in this immediate
vicinity had been completed [2] [3] . Many houses in this block of Napolen were
constructed in 1922 establishing that year as a probable date of installation
[3] . The lamp-post is of the Star design as installed in Chicago's Portage
Park in 1915 [4] .
David B. Duvall
October 26, 1995
NOTES
1. Historic Preservation Commission Resolution No.3: Historic Landmarks
Procedure
2. St. Joseph County Recorder's Plat Book #10, p. 24
3. Portage Township Assessor's data cards
4. Trade magazine clipping of unknown origin from HPC archives.
